International Driving Permit from CAA

There are many places in Thailand where scooters are nice to have.  To avoid any issues with renting a scooter or motorcycle, its beneficial to have an International Driving Permit.  I thought this would be a complicated process, but rather very simple with the help of CAA.  You will need a valid driving license to match the vehicle type to be driven, two passport size photos and small fee charged by CAA.  I paid a $30 fee and $15 for two photos. It took longer for me to drive to CAA than getting them to prepare the permit.  The permit is a paper based booklet that must be accompanied by your driving license to be valid. Here is a link to download the application. CAA IDP Permit

Mobile Apps

We first thought of purchasing a local SIM card in Thailand for data services, but have concerns about our late arrival time and long lines at the airport.  I'm taking a chance and purchased a pre-paid service (found on Amazon) before leaving Canada.  All I have to do is insert the SIM card into our phone upon landing in Bangkok, configure my phone and hope it works!  Ideally, all goes well and the data service will activate immediately when we arrive in Thailand!  This will allow us to c...

We're going to Thailand

For months and months, we saw others on YouTube vlogging about their travel adventures in Thailand and dreamed of doing it ourselves.  After the dark days of winter in December and January, we decided to go for it. After arranging time off from work, we began planning the grand trip for a month long tour.  This blog will help us capture our thoughts and events.  This is my first blog as well, lots to learn along the way.  We are Ruby and Parneet, a married couple looking to expand our travel experience.
